Wah Lee T'ai Chi Programme

All students, regardless of background, are required to go through the beginner program. It takes about six months, but could be shorter depending on how hard you practice. At each lesson you will be given a new movement or series of movements to practice before the next class. If you practice diligently you will progress quickly. If you don't, you'll repeat the lesson, wasting both your time and the teacher's.

Year One

The beginner course starts with four QiGongs (from Shi MeiLin (GuangXuan QiGong)). Each one takes about five minutes to perform, so once you've learned the first four (in a 10-week course) you've got 20 minutes of exercise to do every day!

At this point, if you decide that T'ai Chi is for you. Most people can "create" 20 minutes of free time every day, but more than that is a big ask. However, T'ai Chi won't work if you don't do if every day.

If you decide to continue to Beginners 2, you will learn a limbering and strengthening routine and the first five movements of the beginners Wu Style T'ai Chi (as taught by Shi MeiLin). This takes another three months (10 weeks).

You will continue to practice this for the rest of the year.

Year Two

After the first year, if you pass the grading you can choose to study the Beginners Wu Style T'ai Chi Long Form or the "front half" of DaYan QiGong (Wild Goose Qi Gong).

If you choose T'ai Chi, in the second year you'll be taught the beginners long form. It is taught in six sections and will take a year to learn.

If you choose DaYan QiGong you'll learn the front half in six months and spend the rest of the year refining it.

Year Three

If you pass the grading at the end of the year two you'll spend the next year refining the Beginners Long Form.

This year is spent getting the beginners form as accurate and flowing as possible. It also allows time for the body and mind to adjust to their new way of doing things.

After this year, if you pass the grading, you can continue to study other things. However, for most people, this is enough.

Other Bits

Providing that you can show you have learned well, you may be invited to learn the "other bits." This is at the discretion of WahLee.
